ART IN THE GARDEN 2007

1. GARDEN

John and Cheryl Biggs

316 East Edgewood Street, Sidney

A flair for structure and color, hard work and meticulous planning resulted in the garden that John and Cheryl designed, planted and constructed entirely on their own. After removing two large trees and hauling in twenty truckloads of rich soil to create a contoured landscape, the owners added over 200 carefully chosen perennials and annuals to attract hummingbirds and butterflies. A pond that features two meandering streams and six waterfalls is home to a variety of fish. Sarah Collier will demonstrate portrait painting in the Biggs garden.

2. GARDEN

Kent and Darlene Craver

309 East Robinwood Street, Sidney

Darlene likes simplicity when it comes to designing her garden. A uniform plan using pink and coral impatiens, geraniums and petunias are artistically displayed in containers and in the ground. The pool and wood deck, designed by Darlene dominate the back yard. Tables and comfortable chairs sit in the shade of an apple tree and beside the roses making a great place to sit and enjoy the view. Pat Elsass, from Botkins, will exhibit photographs in his collection and give tips about flower photography. The Rainbow Gardeners will host a boutique featuring many annual and perennial plants, hypertufa troughs, and garden accessories.

3. SUNROOM & GARDEN

Paul and Wilma Gahagan

317 East Robinwood Street, Sidney

The Gahagans moved into a new home and have spent the past 22 years working, on their own and with professional help, designing and planting their garden. Hostas, daylilies, peonies, astibile, clematis and annuals like begonias and impatiens surround the house. Grasses, evergreens, flowering shrubs and trees provide color in the summer. A cedar deck with a large pergola was built as an entrance to a sunroom where the couple can view their garden in any season. Bev Weeks of Heritage House will display tablescapes and garden accessories from her shop. Patti Fogt welds sculptured abstract landscape forms and will demonstrate her art.
