Education
Schools from throughout Sidney and Shelby County bring third
grade students on field trips to the Ross Historical Center each spring to see Spring
Fling Fine Art Show and Sale, a partnership project of the arts council and the
Shelby County Historical Society.
The art show attracts works by artists in west central Ohio and is judged by museum curators. Cash awards are made in six categories and to a best of show artist.
The students also see work by their peers in an accompanying
student art show which is juried by art teachers.
Volunteer docents lead the tours through the art show, teaching youngsters about elements of art and how to appreciate what they see. Artists are at work during the tour, as well, to show students how art is made.
