Art is not seperate from our beings. It is in virturally everything we do; sometimes as close and vital as our own skin. Art is in our food, clothing, homes and workplace. It nourishes the mind, stimulates emotions and heals the soul. At its best, art will educate us, stimulate
our imagination, bring us joy, and change our lives.Art is a gift and it is the Arts Council's mission to make it available to as many people
as possible in Sidney and Shelby County. Music Matters gives children who lack the resources the chance to make and enjoy music by providing instruments at little or no charge. Our partnership with Gateway Youth brings aret to "at risk" children, building self confidence, creativity, teamwork and cooperation. The Youth Education Series (YES!) provides access to performing arts by way of national touring groups. Our Presents Series brings quality entertainment to adult and families.
Enjoy
Who enjoys the arts? Anyone and everyone! For that reason we bring enjoyment through a variety of programs and entertainment that reach each individual as well as the community we serve. Last season, Gateway Arts Council presented Images from the Land, a pictorial narrative of Shelby County's agricultural community, set to music by the Sidney Civic Band. We were also able to bring the United States Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors, as well as Sidney Salutes to the stage. The Youth Education Series presented four national touring productions for the enjoyment of our area children and their families. In our upcoming season we will continue our long standing tradition
of presenting the best arts programming possible for our community.
Enrich
At it's best, art is both entertaining and instructive. It tells our stories, moves our emotions and demonstrates how the values we choose influence our lives. Art is both a reflection and a stimulus for our culture.The arts are not just presentations to benefit and audience; they are a workshop of experiences, goals, dreams and visions–for performers and presenters alike. This "creative awareness" can be vital to the quality of life in people and in the community. It helps encourage communication, teamwork, expression, a sense of community, creativity and imagination. The ares are a reflection of life, and therefore make for common ground, spanning every kind of gap between people. It's a universal language among people, and it give us a better understanding of our world.
